Long-distance move from Miami Beach, FL to San Francisco, CA

Nightmare interstate move from Miami Beach to San Francisco in June 20

Nightmare interstate move from Miami Beach to San Francisco in June 2025. Frustration from broken promises, misleading communications, and unresolved claims. Avoid if you want accountability.

Post-move issues:

Weight Overcharge: Estimated 5,079 lbs; actual ~3,000 lbs (no packing). June 3 email from Deanna Chacon: "You will get a refund if there are less items packed." June 11 from Ken McCleod: "bringing your total weight down to 3,000 lbs... changes in final invoice." Now they refuse adjustments —no revised invoice, paid full for unused services. Feels like bait-and-switch.

Lost Items Ignored: Boxes with ~$7,500 in shoes/sneakers missing. Reported within 24 hours (June 4), claim filed June 6/11. Their trace: "not found," but only $125 "courtesy" offered (rejected). Claims team unresponsive.

Service Ghosting: Emails June-August ignored/deflected. Escalations to supervisor/Ken: nothing. FMCSA/BBB complaints filed—pending.

Deceptive practices and zero follow-through. Use a mover with real reviews/policies. 1 star—generous.

Long-distance move from Nashville, TN to Bunnell, FL

PLEASE READ MY REVIEW! This scam cost me 2.5x more than quoted, they e

Original quote was $4,500, this scam cost me more than $10,000 by the time I actually got my delivery. I reached out to a VP and CEO to express my frustration and didn’t even receive an acknowledgment of my emails. I will put as much detail as I can, and proceed with AVL at your own risk.

-Anthony (sales rep) specifically stated a delivery date of 2/21 would be better for delivery. My original closing was a week later, so I moved it at his request. He didn’t call me at any point after I signed the contract. Later, the manager admitted he suggested this date “I assume to reduce your quote”.

-I believe Roman (alleged moving coordinator) was supposed to call me to review all this and never did. I believe he said “g*d d*amnit” in frustration when I was asking questions, I may be wrong but it sounded clear to me at the time.

-When I brought this concern up, I was told “he’s new” as if that made his mistakes acceptable.

-I was told the quote went up more than 60% because I didn’t identify every single item despite listing picture frames and other big ticket items.

-There was no warning from anyone on this increase, just an email and I was eventually told I “had to sign it” when the movers were in my house and closing was the next day.

-After receiving the new quote, I pointed out multiple times that items were duplicates and they refused to remove from the quote. They had additional beds, tvs etc that I simply do not own. I pointed that out to multiple people and was told to “sign the form, if they don’t need it you won’t be charged for it.” I didn’t trust that would be the case.

-After 5 hours on the phone receiving calls from multiple people trying to sort this out I was told I had to make a decision immediately without even seeing numbers. I asked to see the two different quotes (flat pricing vs. by the box/pound) so I could read them and confirm and they said I had to agree to one before seeing the quote in writing.

-Manager said it was my responsibility to confirm that their box estimates were accurate in the initial quote. That’s my job?

-Repeatedly told “you can accept the new charges or the movers wont show up tomorrow” less than 24 hours before my closing. It was too late to do it myself and I couldn’t hire another company at that point.

-Said I only had two options and if I didn’t commit to the new price or the old quote with half the service (and I could pack things myself) I’d lose my $2,300 deposit and they couldn’t reschedule for a couple weeks. Closing was the next morning.

-Finally after complaining to multiple people about the redundant items on the list, the “new” cost would be $6,000 even if items/weight came under quote. They acted like they gave me a deal.

-Asked manager (Melissa) to listen to call w Anthony and get back to me, never heard back.

-I received a call the day of the pickup and was told that someone was reviewing and compensation would be looked into for the complications, I never heard back.

-Before I signed the initial paperwork I asked: “is packing on the same day as everything gets moved, or a day prior.” Anthony’s response was: “yes, it will be on the same day” which was inaccurate. I have this in writing and they still dispute it.

-In an email I asked “If pickup is 2/19, would delivery be 2/21” and he confirmed “I can still honor the same dates, yes.” When I sent this email from the sales rep to Melissa she said that wasn’t confirmation. He stated it on our call, confirmed it in writing, and it’s NOT confirmation? Again no mention of a window.

-Sat in my house all day waiting for the delivery to show up because Anthony confirmed. No one showed. I finally called and was told there was a two week window. This had not been mentioned.

-I had to live in hotels and extend my rental car, all while having three pairs of clothes because I was expecting to only be on the road for two days.

-Melissa told me she would call me back with updates throughout the process, she never did. Left multiple voicemails and emails without a response for days. Neither Melissa nor Rosa (new moving coordinator) communicated with me.

-Multiple items have been broken including a tv stand and roomba, stools have been chipped, multiple items are missing and my batteries for my electric lawnmower no longer work, All additional headaches to deal with.

There’s more, I just can’t fit them all. I’ve moved 6 times in my life, this was easily the worst experience. It was chaotic and I feel misled at almost every step. It cost me roughly $6000 in addition to the initial $4,000 quote, and weeks of frustration trying to track people down to get updates and answers.

They confirmed the mistakes, told me they’d review my expenses and just delayed for weeks with no responses.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. Save yourself the time, headache and money. Worst moving experience, they admit their errors and won’t make it right.

Thieves and Liars.

Do not use this company. If you cancel, they’ll lie stating that they never received your deposit, regardless of all the proof showing that they did, and you’ll never see your thousands of dollars again. They’re an unorganized, untruthful and overall disgusting “company”. If you can even call them that. You’d have better luck carrying you belongings on your back to your destination.

Long-distance move from Sherman Oaks, CA to Spring, TX

National American Van Lines

These people are THIEVES. Their business model is to raise the price by THOUSANDS only days before your move, and keep your deposit if you cancel, knowing moving is incredibly stressful and people moving are vulnerable. They LIED and raised the cubic-foot volume they wanted to charge me for only 3 days before the move. I cancelled, and they stole another $2000 from my bank account anyway, for "extra deposit" on a move they KNEW they wouldn't do. And kept my $2387 deposit ($4387 total.) When another (MUCH cheaper) mover delivered my goods, I measured the space it had occupied in the truck. NAVL demanded I pay them for 1653 cubic feet, but I had ONLY 984 cubic feet of goods. NAVL jacked up the price 54% at the last minute, demanding $3400 MORE than the contract price to move 670 cubic feet that DID NOT EXIST. There is NO SUCH THING as a contract where one party is bound by it, but the other can arbitrarily alter the terms and price, based upon FRAUD. These people commit FRAUD and EXTORTION. They are CRIMINALS.

Long-distance move from Austin, TX to Reno, NV

Fake company - run away!

Pasting in my complaint here from BBB, which sounds like it echoes all the other 1-star reviews here:

This broker set up my moving contract. They gave me incorrect verbal information on the forms of payment for the moving company, they gave me a quote that was highly underestimated due to an inaccurate assemessment of items to be moved. Items were picked up on 5/16/21 by the moving company with which the broker contracted at the end of a 2-day window. It is 7/9/21 and my belongings have not been delivered to the new address. The broker has been largely unresponsive to requests for updates from the moving company (all phone numbers forward to an "after hours" voicemail even during business hours, and calls not returned). They seem to have no influence or authority to advocate for me, the customer. They received a hefty deposit for services, but have done nothing to ensure delivery of my items.

Update: My family had to intervene, rent a truck, drive 3 hours to the storage facility and then pay a ransom for my items, THEN drive them from TX to NV. Unbelievable. I feel like I paid to move twice. They continue to accept zero responsibility and didn't even communicate with the movers to know that I had reclaimed my items.

SHUT. THEM. DOWN!

Long-distance move from Redwood City, CA to Neligh, NE

Terrible business practices

One of THE most miserable experiences of my life! I was relocating from the California Bay Area to Nebraska for a new job. I booked through NAVL because their price was good, and everything seemed very straightforward. I gave them a walkthrough of my property and was given an initial estimate of ~$7000, and we booked them and gave a deposit of $2850.00. I booked them on March 5, 2021 (before all the negative reviews) for a move July 20.

On July 16th, had another walkthrough, and the price went up ~$4000 because of cubic feet and more boxes. Hubby and I agreed to remove our beds, dining room table/chairs, couches and two credenzas to save $$. We figured since we removed those items the price would be around the original quote. WRONG.

On July 18th, "Brock" called me and told me that the initial moving company that had taken the job was no longer available, and the next carrier willing to take the job wanted another $1040.00 (deposit). I asked “Brock” what would happen if I didn’t have the $1040 that second for the additional deposit, and he said, “cancel your move”. Which is a tactic of bait and switch – if I did not have that $1040 readily available, he would have cancelled my move and kept my $3890 deposit!

The movers arrived July 20th. Orhan with Hizir Logistics shows up with day workers and begins to tell me I have way more than 1400 cubic feet, and that I have a full truck (2000 cf). THAT difference was an additional $7000! He said they could fill up the truck to 1400cf and then whatever is left I could choose to not take. This is AFTER going through the exact number of items the prior Friday with NAVL and eliminating all the big (i.e., cubic feet) of furniture. I was stuck! I had to start my new job in Nebraska on July 26th and we needed to bring all our property. After eliminating the large pieces of furniture - all I had left was items that were either meaningful or expensive.

NAVL told me to have 50% available of the total cost in Cash or Cashier’s Check, the movers required 60%. Reviewing the contract, it says “up to 70%” which is ridiculous! I failed to read the fine print in the contract, I just wrote down what the representative at NAVL told me. That is 100% on me. Also, I did not receive a Bill of Lading upon departure, and I do not have their DOT number or name even on the Bill of Lading. All of which is required by the DOT.

On July 21, we drove from California to Nebraska arriving July 24th. On Monday (26th) I begin calling about the delivery date. When I first booked with NAVL - they stayed delivery “within 21 days”. My property was partially delivered on Sept 5th and the rest delivered on Sept 7 – 48 days.

Then, the moving guy on September 6, was alone and he had to hire helpers. He hired the owner of the local motel where he stayed the night before and his son. It was not my full delivery! Orhan was bringing the rest of my property Tuesday Sept 7th! So, I took Sept 6th off, and I got a hold of Orhan asking him when he will be at my house, and he says "Wednesday"! So, I took Wednesday off as well - and he got to my house around 430pm. Alone without any help, which was fine since it was just boxes.

During this entire moving period, I called NAVL a bunch of times, called/texted Orhan a bunch of times and the owner of the moving company a bunch of times. Minimal response.

About six pieces of my solid wood furniture were damaged in the move. I called NAVL for Claims information and they emailed it to me a day later, with the incorrect moving company information (email stated, “Radius Moving and Storage”, when the cashier's checks were to Hizir Logistics”), and incorrect website information (email said to go to “Mymovingclaim.net” which does not exist, so after exploring I came across the correct one “movingclaims.net” (they responded to me that Hizir was in their database).

This was an absolute nightmare. The exorbitant price gauging, the complete lack of communication, the anguish over my new job and whether I was going to be "ok" asking for time off when I was new, and the semester just started (I got hired as a faculty member at a local college). I "assumed" that the 21 days (about 3 weeks) for delivery was authentic, so I would have had my property by August 10 - in time before school starts.

Also, after reading tons of reviews on this company – this lowball tactic is part of their game plan to hook people to pay a deposit (which according to most reviews – people never get back if they find a better price or a more highly reviewed company) or prey on your desperation on move day, which was my case.

Movers showed up 5 hours late to get my stuff, kept coming up with excuses as to where they were. They increased the cost once they had their contractors (Allied Moving Group another total fraud) come get my stuff. They held my items in a warehouse in Chicago for 60 days (i was moving from MI to FL) after telling me that it would be there in less than 2 weeks. After 4 weeks one of the guys who picked up my stuff (really the only guy i could get on the phone out of the two companies) asked if i had a picture of my belongings because they werent sure what was mine. I got a lawyer involved, they refused to provide any information and tried to charge me more when they finally arrived.

This company never had any idea where my stuff was and hardly ever answers the phone. DO NOT USE

Shyster like business practices

Unscrupulous and deceptive business practices

The bottom line:

CHOOSE ANOTHER COMPANY do not fall for the trap like we did. The have shyster practices with luring initial low quotes, leave you pressured at last minute with charges 3x the quote amount, they sneak in the fine print a 72 hour cancelation policy with no refund of deposit, and will treat you rudely.

Long Version:

The initial contact made with National American Vanlines was on, March 26, 2021 about an upcoming move. We requested a quote and they required information regarding our "inventory" that would go on the truck. The asked vague questions of the inventory and we provided the accurate information and told them its a 16x10 storage unit worth of inventory and a few other outside items. I was able to ask them very specific questions about their pricing and what I would expect to pay based on previous moving experience and from talking with other moving companies. For our inventory, we were quoted a fee of $2861.21 for the entire move. That same amount was also emailed to me in a contract. No further inquiries from the company were made regarding our inventory. They required a deposit from our checking account of $1059.00 and was debited same day and 2 subsequent payments would be made at and after move completed. They said they "do not take credit card but the drivers can accept postal money orders".

Now its May 17th, two days before our move, and a company representative called with a "quality assurance" procedure. A company representative then started asking in depth questions regarding our inventory for the truck. After provided the details of our inventory, a new estimate of $4986.99 was provided and further $936.20 was due immediately from our checking account. They explained that the reason for the difference in estimates is that we "did not provide accurate details of your inventory at the initial estimate". After much deliberation and multiple phone calls with multiple representatives, we decided to cancel our services and told we will forfeit the deposit of $1059.00. After multiple requests we were still denied the deposit and was hung up in mid-sentence by the representative with no written confirmation of the cancellation. I called back and spoke with another representative because the previous rep refused to speak with me. I requested email confirmation of the cancellation and was told "she will get it to us when she gets around to doing it". Still no email confirmation of cancellation.

Legal representation has already been contacted and will be in contact with this company requesting refund due to poorly written contract and not meeting the terms of their contract. The FTC, Florida AG, and BBB have also been contacted and informed of their business practices taking place. Will be contacting local FL business bureaus, town/city councils, and filing on their bond.

Horrible moving company. these people need sued

These people overcharged us thousands of dollars to move our stuff knowing that we needed it moved. They then held our stuff hostage at delivery because they tried to overcharge us for stairs (they had already overcharged us 100 dollars). They have no idea who their drivers are. The manager screamed at us and cursed us out. We have videos of these people dropping our stuff on the ground because they wouldnt deliver it in our apartment. We had to call the cops on these people. This is a basic overview. Please sue these people if you are a victim, they deserve it. WE will definitely be trying to get some of our money back.

Worst ever do not use

I would never use them again. When I first contacted them they couldn't be more helpful ...till after I gave my deposit. Then when I called could not get anyone to answer my calls. The men that moved me were very unprofessional and careless. End result: they damaged almost every piece they moved including a wall in the home I moved from. The delivery supervisor told me I couldn't write on the delivery receipt, that it was just to acknowledge receipt of furniture. But then when I filed the claim I was told they wouldn't acknowledge everything because I didn't note it on the delivery receipt. What a sneaky way to avoid paying me. Do yourself a favor and do not use them.

Over $2,000 in damage and all they awarded me was $300.

Most untrusted movers!

Both National American Van Lines and USA Logistics Put my daughter through such anxiety, stress and financial expense moving her personal effects. They are unprofessional and careless. Their business is unfair and inconsiderate. After being lied to on several occasions about delivery dates which never happened finally after three weeks she got her shipment. Two broken TV's and busted dishes. Now she is having difficulty filing her claim as well. We are considering legal assistance in filing a law suite for restitution and anguish. My mom needed to move. She is 72 years old and very quick on her feet however she did not look at BBB and DOT review of them. They are SCAMMERS. They took half the total for Down Payment, never showed up, claimed they can come when they want within a 2 day window. Never called 24 hours before to give the time. Finally showed up in a Rented truck and then the drivers "looked" at the boxes and said they need another 3K more than originally quoted. Mind you they had an inventory list of items. Moving a 1 bedroom small apt for 8k!!! HOW?? We didn't even add any more items. When we called they never answered except if you wait for 20 mins. SYLVIA a nasty creature, said "your money is gone, stop asking for it back". DO NOT USE THEM. Do your research and look up reviews.

Just don’t!

A pretty great experience until this afternoon when I was told I “called too many times and no one wants to talk to me” and was spoken to in the most disrespectful, unprofessional tone. Yes, I have questions and you know who’s job it is to answer those questions? Customer service. Had the company been clear around drop off time-line and other details, there would be no need for multiple questions. “Donny” and David should be fired. And as someone who deals with challenging people all day, I get it, people are frustrating. BUT this treatment was weak, and flat out disrespectful. I actually had a positive experience the past couple of days as I was needing more info and had to change my move day (also not uncommon and was told by Michelle this was perfectly fine.) until this afternoon. I was actually going to recommend them to a handful of friends and coworkers moving soon but NO WAY. I’m surprised they are still in business. Take your business elsewhere!

Horrible moving company

They will give you a quote and then increase the price upon arrival even though the items I had at move time were less than I originally gave them...which doesn't leave you with an option to get another mover.

Upon delivery of my furniture, they sent one man in a semi truck that he had never driven before to my home. He had to contract a local man to help unload the truck. Then they proceeded to tell me that I would be charged extra because they had to walk >75 feet on my porch.

The supervisor called me and was very disrespectful and unkind. Horrible customer service. They treat their employees horribly.

Scammers- will take advance and wont move your stuff

These are one of the Worst company and big Scammers. First of while making reservation for the moving these guys will call 10 times a day. After signing contract worth $2500 and paying advance of $883 calls stopped. Then on day of pickup they are asking $1000 extra saying you have much volume even though I confirmed with them 4-5 times before signing contract all my stuff be covered in $2500. After refusing to pay $1000, I agreed with pickup guy to move stuff that be covered as part of Original payment $2500. But he got upset with it, started arguing. He started making choice of picking only small stuff, When I request him to move one item instead of another, he got more upset and directly left house without taking any of my items.

I then started calling American Van lines to speak to some supervisior, On the same day they started giving reason supervisor is busy and from next day they stopped pickuping my phone.

No matter what time I called, I always get message "you have called during outside office hours". and I had 3-4 direct numbers if their agent, they literally blocked me.

So inshort this guys tooks $883 from me and did nothing. Scammed me for $883 under the promise of moving my stuff

Never again

Never use National American Van Lines out of Pompano, FL, who is a broker for moving companies. As they book your move, they are not transparent about all the up charges that the actual moving company will add on to the move after you have signed contract with National American. Plus, they are not responsible for your items. Job was assigned to Cosmos Transport of Fort Lauderdale , Florida. This company had many up charges and held belongings hostage on truck until more money was paid. Some items did not arrive at all on truck and other items broken. Worst moving experience ever. Worse broker ever

They contracted with USA Logistics in Sun Valley Ca. The quote they gave us ended up costing 10k more. We were told by the broker it would be half when they loaded and half when they delivered plus the deposit we had already put up. When we called the broker and said it's way over the amount and they want 80% to go to AZ. She said sorry about that nothing we can do. She said I guarantee you your belongings will arrive safely and be well packed. Our stuff was dumped into boxes. My water pic was dumped into box of household cleaning supplies that incidentally spilled all over it. Lead crystal was broken, dinner plates broken. Nothing was unpacked and set up whi h we were yolk was part of the move. Wardrobe boxes didn't have bars to hang clothes and they dumped household items on top of clothes. Our 8500k quote with 3000k down ended up costing us 14k. After the movers loaded the van they demand nearly 10k . They were supposed to deliver next day. They didn't. They moved our stuff from San Diego to Los Angeles when we had been told they were coming straight to Goodyear AZ. In Los A our stuff was moved to a semi, then they charged us to offload to a shuttle . We told them semis come into our neighborhood all the time. They ignored us and that was another charge. The broker is a thief and USA Logistics is too. Don't use a broker or USA Logistics. Run as fast as you can.

Scam scam scam

If you book with this company after reading the reviews, you have been warned.

If you are reading reviews after booking, my advice is ask for a refund. DO NOT CANCEL YOUR MOVE. Canceling voids your refund.

I have moved cross country after changing employers three times. Whole house moves all three times. This last time we arranged a truck with National American Van Lines. Everything seemed normal, besides the over the phone quote, but with COVID, it has become more common.

No one called the day before scheduled pickup. When I called the day of pickup at 4pm they claimed to still be coming that day. The next morning, the backup date, I called and they couldn't the truck. They promised to call back. At noon I called again and asked for the trucks phone number. They gave it and the driver wouldn't tell me where he was but assured he was close. I looked up the company, which had all negative reviews, including a newspaper story describing three families whose belongings were not delivered after 90 days past delivery date. The booking company and truck company are both registered in the same city in FL.

Do research and ask yourself: is saving money worth the risk you lose all of your belongings?

Don’t confuse with other company by similar name. National American absolutely disgusting. The contractors are shady dishonest and rude. They cheat in every way possible. Cubic feet was not correct. First contractor I used in Reno should be in jail and prosecuted. The people and managers for National are just as deceitful and rude. Their managers hardly work out all the time. They have so many managers you hardly get to talk to the same one. They don’t follow through. When delayed for delivery by a whole month from date promised and 15 days after contract date they do not compensate as it says they have to. They said for me to file complaint thru a government website. Insane! Stay clear of this company no matter what! I regretted using them. I lost so much money using them instead of Pods.

Long-distance move from Phoenix, AZ to Spanaway, WA

It's true it's a scam

National American Van lines is a moving broker, they will give you a low ball quote and then broker your move out to another mover. My move was brokered out to S&M relo LLC. After S&M relo LLC arrived in an unmarked van and loaded my items into the van they doubled the cost. My stuff was taken to an a unknown Warehouse they would not give me the location. 30 days later my stuff arrived by yet another mover People's Movers. I guess I should consider it myself lucky I only had two boxes missing and several items that were broke in several of the other boxes and one 5x7 rug that was missing. I still can't believe they can get away with theft and unethical business practices whatever you do stay away from these companies! It was truly a sickening experience!!
