Long-distance move from Miami Beach, FL to San Francisco, CA

Nightmare interstate move from Miami Beach to San Francisco in June 20

Nightmare interstate move from Miami Beach to San Francisco in June 2025. Frustration from broken promises, misleading communications, and unresolved claims. Avoid if you want accountability.

Post-move issues:

Weight Overcharge: Estimated 5,079 lbs; actual ~3,000 lbs (no packing). June 3 email from Deanna Chacon: "You will get a refund if there are less items packed." June 11 from Ken McCleod: "bringing your total weight down to 3,000 lbs... changes in final invoice." Now they refuse adjustments —no revised invoice, paid full for unused services. Feels like bait-and-switch.

Lost Items Ignored: Boxes with ~$7,500 in shoes/sneakers missing. Reported within 24 hours (June 4), claim filed June 6/11. Their trace: "not found," but only $125 "courtesy" offered (rejected). Claims team unresponsive.

Service Ghosting: Emails June-August ignored/deflected. Escalations to supervisor/Ken: nothing. FMCSA/BBB complaints filed—pending.

Deceptive practices and zero follow-through. Use a mover with real reviews/policies. 1 star—generous.

Long-distance move from Nashville, TN to Bunnell, FL

PLEASE READ MY REVIEW! This scam cost me 2.5x more than quoted, they e

Original quote was $4,500, this scam cost me more than $10,000 by the time I actually got my delivery. I reached out to a VP and CEO to express my frustration and didn’t even receive an acknowledgment of my emails. I will put as much detail as I can, and proceed with AVL at your own risk.

-Anthony (sales rep) specifically stated a delivery date of 2/21 would be better for delivery. My original closing was a week later, so I moved it at his request. He didn’t call me at any point after I signed the contract. Later, the manager admitted he suggested this date “I assume to reduce your quote”.

-I believe Roman (alleged moving coordinator) was supposed to call me to review all this and never did. I believe he said “g*d d*amnit” in frustration when I was asking questions, I may be wrong but it sounded clear to me at the time.

-When I brought this concern up, I was told “he’s new” as if that made his mistakes acceptable.

-I was told the quote went up more than 60% because I didn’t identify every single item despite listing picture frames and other big ticket items.

-There was no warning from anyone on this increase, just an email and I was eventually told I “had to sign it” when the movers were in my house and closing was the next day.

-After receiving the new quote, I pointed out multiple times that items were duplicates and they refused to remove from the quote. They had additional beds, tvs etc that I simply do not own. I pointed that out to multiple people and was told to “sign the form, if they don’t need it you won’t be charged for it.” I didn’t trust that would be the case.

-After 5 hours on the phone receiving calls from multiple people trying to sort this out I was told I had to make a decision immediately without even seeing numbers. I asked to see the two different quotes (flat pricing vs. by the box/pound) so I could read them and confirm and they said I had to agree to one before seeing the quote in writing.

-Manager said it was my responsibility to confirm that their box estimates were accurate in the initial quote. That’s my job?

-Repeatedly told “you can accept the new charges or the movers wont show up tomorrow” less than 24 hours before my closing. It was too late to do it myself and I couldn’t hire another company at that point.

-Said I only had two options and if I didn’t commit to the new price or the old quote with half the service (and I could pack things myself) I’d lose my $2,300 deposit and they couldn’t reschedule for a couple weeks. Closing was the next morning.

-Finally after complaining to multiple people about the redundant items on the list, the “new” cost would be $6,000 even if items/weight came under quote. They acted like they gave me a deal.

-Asked manager (Melissa) to listen to call w Anthony and get back to me, never heard back.

-I received a call the day of the pickup and was told that someone was reviewing and compensation would be looked into for the complications, I never heard back.

-Before I signed the initial paperwork I asked: “is packing on the same day as everything gets moved, or a day prior.” Anthony’s response was: “yes, it will be on the same day” which was inaccurate. I have this in writing and they still dispute it.

-In an email I asked “If pickup is 2/19, would delivery be 2/21” and he confirmed “I can still honor the same dates, yes.” When I sent this email from the sales rep to Melissa she said that wasn’t confirmation. He stated it on our call, confirmed it in writing, and it’s NOT confirmation? Again no mention of a window.

-Sat in my house all day waiting for the delivery to show up because Anthony confirmed. No one showed. I finally called and was told there was a two week window. This had not been mentioned.

-I had to live in hotels and extend my rental car, all while having three pairs of clothes because I was expecting to only be on the road for two days.

-Melissa told me she would call me back with updates throughout the process, she never did. Left multiple voicemails and emails without a response for days. Neither Melissa nor Rosa (new moving coordinator) communicated with me.

-Multiple items have been broken including a tv stand and roomba, stools have been chipped, multiple items are missing and my batteries for my electric lawnmower no longer work, All additional headaches to deal with.

There’s more, I just can’t fit them all. I’ve moved 6 times in my life, this was easily the worst experience. It was chaotic and I feel misled at almost every step. It cost me roughly $6000 in addition to the initial $4,000 quote, and weeks of frustration trying to track people down to get updates and answers.

They confirmed the mistakes, told me they’d review my expenses and just delayed for weeks with no responses.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. Save yourself the time, headache and money. Worst moving experience, they admit their errors and won’t make it right.

Long-distance move from Sherman Oaks, CA to Spring, TX

National American Van Lines

These people are THIEVES. Their business model is to raise the price by THOUSANDS only days before your move, and keep your deposit if you cancel, knowing moving is incredibly stressful and people moving are vulnerable. They LIED and raised the cubic-foot volume they wanted to charge me for only 3 days before the move. I cancelled, and they stole another $2000 from my bank account anyway, for "extra deposit" on a move they KNEW they wouldn't do. And kept my $2387 deposit ($4387 total.) When another (MUCH cheaper) mover delivered my goods, I measured the space it had occupied in the truck. NAVL demanded I pay them for 1653 cubic feet, but I had ONLY 984 cubic feet of goods. NAVL jacked up the price 54% at the last minute, demanding $3400 MORE than the contract price to move 670 cubic feet that DID NOT EXIST. There is NO SUCH THING as a contract where one party is bound by it, but the other can arbitrarily alter the terms and price, based upon FRAUD. These people commit FRAUD and EXTORTION. They are CRIMINALS.

Thieves and Liars.

Do not use this company. If you cancel, they’ll lie stating that they never received your deposit, regardless of all the proof showing that they did, and you’ll never see your thousands of dollars again. They’re an unorganized, untruthful and overall disgusting “company”. If you can even call them that. You’d have better luck carrying you belongings on your back to your destination.

Long-distance move from Austin, TX to Reno, NV

Fake company - run away!

Pasting in my complaint here from BBB, which sounds like it echoes all the other 1-star reviews here:

This broker set up my moving contract. They gave me incorrect verbal information on the forms of payment for the moving company, they gave me a quote that was highly underestimated due to an inaccurate assemessment of items to be moved. Items were picked up on 5/16/21 by the moving company with which the broker contracted at the end of a 2-day window. It is 7/9/21 and my belongings have not been delivered to the new address. The broker has been largely unresponsive to requests for updates from the moving company (all phone numbers forward to an "after hours" voicemail even during business hours, and calls not returned). They seem to have no influence or authority to advocate for me, the customer. They received a hefty deposit for services, but have done nothing to ensure delivery of my items.

Update: My family had to intervene, rent a truck, drive 3 hours to the storage facility and then pay a ransom for my items, THEN drive them from TX to NV. Unbelievable. I feel like I paid to move twice. They continue to accept zero responsibility and didn't even communicate with the movers to know that I had reclaimed my items.

SHUT. THEM. DOWN!

Long-distance move from Redwood City, CA to Neligh, NE

Terrible business practices

One of THE most miserable experiences of my life! I was relocating from the California Bay Area to Nebraska for a new job. I booked through NAVL because their price was good, and everything seemed very straightforward. I gave them a walkthrough of my property and was given an initial estimate of ~$7000, and we booked them and gave a deposit of $2850.00. I booked them on March 5, 2021 (before all the negative reviews) for a move July 20.

On July 16th, had another walkthrough, and the price went up ~$4000 because of cubic feet and more boxes. Hubby and I agreed to remove our beds, dining room table/chairs, couches and two credenzas to save $$. We figured since we removed those items the price would be around the original quote. WRONG.

On July 18th, "Brock" called me and told me that the initial moving company that had taken the job was no longer available, and the next carrier willing to take the job wanted another $1040.00 (deposit). I asked “Brock” what would happen if I didn’t have the $1040 that second for the additional deposit, and he said, “cancel your move”. Which is a tactic of bait and switch – if I did not have that $1040 readily available, he would have cancelled my move and kept my $3890 deposit!

The movers arrived July 20th. Orhan with Hizir Logistics shows up with day workers and begins to tell me I have way more than 1400 cubic feet, and that I have a full truck (2000 cf). THAT difference was an additional $7000! He said they could fill up the truck to 1400cf and then whatever is left I could choose to not take. This is AFTER going through the exact number of items the prior Friday with NAVL and eliminating all the big (i.e., cubic feet) of furniture. I was stuck! I had to start my new job in Nebraska on July 26th and we needed to bring all our property. After eliminating the large pieces of furniture - all I had left was items that were either meaningful or expensive.

NAVL told me to have 50% available of the total cost in Cash or Cashier’s Check, the movers required 60%. Reviewing the contract, it says “up to 70%” which is ridiculous! I failed to read the fine print in the contract, I just wrote down what the representative at NAVL told me. That is 100% on me. Also, I did not receive a Bill of Lading upon departure, and I do not have their DOT number or name even on the Bill of Lading. All of which is required by the DOT.

On July 21, we drove from California to Nebraska arriving July 24th. On Monday (26th) I begin calling about the delivery date. When I first booked with NAVL - they stayed delivery “within 21 days”. My property was partially delivered on Sept 5th and the rest delivered on Sept 7 – 48 days.

Then, the moving guy on September 6, was alone and he had to hire helpers. He hired the owner of the local motel where he stayed the night before and his son. It was not my full delivery! Orhan was bringing the rest of my property Tuesday Sept 7th! So, I took Sept 6th off, and I got a hold of Orhan asking him when he will be at my house, and he says "Wednesday"! So, I took Wednesday off as well - and he got to my house around 430pm. Alone without any help, which was fine since it was just boxes.

During this entire moving period, I called NAVL a bunch of times, called/texted Orhan a bunch of times and the owner of the moving company a bunch of times. Minimal response.

About six pieces of my solid wood furniture were damaged in the move. I called NAVL for Claims information and they emailed it to me a day later, with the incorrect moving company information (email stated, “Radius Moving and Storage”, when the cashier's checks were to Hizir Logistics”), and incorrect website information (email said to go to “Mymovingclaim.net” which does not exist, so after exploring I came across the correct one “movingclaims.net” (they responded to me that Hizir was in their database).

This was an absolute nightmare. The exorbitant price gauging, the complete lack of communication, the anguish over my new job and whether I was going to be "ok" asking for time off when I was new, and the semester just started (I got hired as a faculty member at a local college). I "assumed" that the 21 days (about 3 weeks) for delivery was authentic, so I would have had my property by August 10 - in time before school starts.

Also, after reading tons of reviews on this company – this lowball tactic is part of their game plan to hook people to pay a deposit (which according to most reviews – people never get back if they find a better price or a more highly reviewed company) or prey on your desperation on move day, which was my case.

Movers showed up 5 hours late to get my stuff, kept coming up with excuses as to where they were. They increased the cost once they had their contractors (Allied Moving Group another total fraud) come get my stuff. They held my items in a warehouse in Chicago for 60 days (i was moving from MI to FL) after telling me that it would be there in less than 2 weeks. After 4 weeks one of the guys who picked up my stuff (really the only guy i could get on the phone out of the two companies) asked if i had a picture of my belongings because they werent sure what was mine. I got a lawyer involved, they refused to provide any information and tried to charge me more when they finally arrived.

This company never had any idea where my stuff was and hardly ever answers the phone. DO NOT USE

Never again

Never use National American Van Lines out of Pompano, FL, who is a broker for moving companies. As they book your move, they are not transparent about all the up charges that the actual moving company will add on to the move after you have signed contract with National American. Plus, they are not responsible for your items. Job was assigned to Cosmos Transport of Fort Lauderdale , Florida. This company had many up charges and held belongings hostage on truck until more money was paid. Some items did not arrive at all on truck and other items broken. Worst moving experience ever. If you value your belongings, look elsewhere.

Bait and switch

This company is a rip-off. They will give you one quote to get you to sign with them and will increase the fee the day before you ship your things (which by the way they can only take through Zelle, since you can't dispute or cancel payments made via Zelle). They will also tell you you only pay for the cubic feet you use, but don't do a count the day of pick-up. Fully regret hiring them to move my items.
